This poem was a winner in
our first birthday Environment Poem Contest
And so he searched
with wings abused
strength overused. Sleepy
hamlets ill conceived
corporations need for greed,
searching for the link.
His search went on
and on he flew. Overview
obstructed by constructed
ticky-tacky match boxes,
masturbated domiciles
swallowed up the link.
The link of land
to water. Sins
of our fathers.
Migration failing,
wailing at a wall
of concrete towers.
He ends the search
dejected, rejected
where once he was
protected. Resting
for a moment
on a sign.
Placard shouting silently:
“Reclamation, Restoration,
Conservation Excavation”
Detour Up Ahead
The Heron cannot read. |
